This recipe is inspired by two classic Indian recipes; golden milk and a mango lassi:

  • Golden Milk is a warm, nourishing Indian drink popular in Ayurveda; it’s most commonly made of turmeric, cinnamon, and ginger with warm milk. For a traditional golden milk recipe, see this recipe by Cook with Manali.
  • A Mango Lassi is a chilled drink made from mango pulp, yogurt, sweetener, and spices. It’s delicious, and if you haven’t had one yet, please check out this recipe by Vegan Richa.

INGREDIENTS FOR GOLDEN MILK MANGO SMOOTHIE

This 9-ingredient smoothie is easy to make, and absolutely beautiful to look at! The bright colors of the mango and turmeric make this an extra tasty, eye-catching breakfast.

  • Frozen Mango: gives this recipe it’s delicious tangy flavor and adds a bit of natural sweetness. I like to go with frozen mango because it’s pre-cut and frozen at peak ripeness (which means it’s packed with extra tangy flavor).
  • Coconut Yogurt: adds some creaminess and healthy fat to the smoothie. The thicker the better for this recipe!
  • Fresh Ginger: a quintessential ingredient in golden milk, a bit of fresh ginger brings a peppery kick and adds to the “coziness factor” of this smoothie.
  • Turmeric: it wouldn’t be a golden milk smoothie without turmeric! It adds a warm, earthy flavor and gives the smoothie an extra pop of bright yellow color.
  • Cinnamon, Cardamom, & Black Pepper: aka the ultimate cozy flavor combo! These spices bring just the right amount of flavor and sweetness to this recipe.
  • Sweetener: we need just a bit of extra sweetness to balance out the warm spices and the tangy mango. Any sweetener you like will do here; I love maple syrup in mine!
  • Non-Dairy Milk: to help blend everything together and bring some extra creaminess. Coconut, cashew, or oat milk work best for this recipe, as they are all extra creamy and mild in flavor.

  • Category: Breakfast
  • Method: Blender
  • Cuisine: American
  • Diet: Vegan

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (140 g) frozen mango
  • 1 cup non-dairy milk* (store-bought or homemade)
  • 2 tablespoons thick coconut yogurt
  • 1/2” piece of ginger, peeled
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground turmeric
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/8 teaspoon cardamom (optional)
  • 1/8 teaspoon black pepper
  • Sweetener of choice*: 1 tablespoon maple syrup, 1/2 banana, or 1 scoop sweetened vanilla protein powder

Instructions

  1. Add all ingredients to a high-speed blender. Blend on high for 45-60 seconds, until smooth and creamy.
  2. Pour into a glass and serve cold.

Notes

  • Non-Dairy Milk: I recommend coconut, cashew, or oat milk for this recipe, but any will work!
  • Yogurt: I recommend using a thick coconut yogurt for this recipe, like Culina, Coyo, or Coconut Cult. If you do not have access to yogurt, replace the yogurt and milk with lite coconut milk + 1 tsp lemon juice.
  • Sweeteners: most mango is not too sweet on its own and will benefit from a sweetener, but adjust according to your own taste preferences. If you add 1/2 of a frozen banana, add an extra 1/2 cup of milk to thin the smoothie out more.

  1. I love this smoothie, both with the banana or protein powder sweetener options. Question…if I were to use pineapple rather than mango, what would you change/omit? I’m thinking cardamom and cinnamon might not go with pineapple.

  2. This is so delicious! Now I’ll be stocking up on frozen mangos so I can make this treat. I used a dash of ground ginger, but will try the fresh when I can.

  3. I just made this for myself, my boyfriend, and my sister. They all loved it!!

To quote my boyfriend: “this has a really interesting flavor profile!”

Will totally be making this again!

  4. An amount of cinnamon makes this smoothie more attractive. Both ginger and cinnamon warm me up. I really enjoy golden milk mango smoothie, but I don’t use frozen mango, I like to use fresh mango because frozen mango is broken structure become so soft, I like feeling of sound when eat fresh mango in the smoothie.

  5. Thanks for your suggestion. These ingredients perfect combine become a tasty smoothie. I like its colour like its name golden milk mango smoothie. Fresh ginger makes me warm. Really plein of vitamin drinking. Let’s try, it’s both sour and sweet, so amazing!

  6. This smoothie is amazing???? and healthy. I don’t use any sweetener and it is still delicious. I used oat milk instead of the almond milk I had been using and it made it 10x better. I made it without cardamom one time and I would definitely not leave this spice out. It is now my favorite breakfast drink! Thanks for sharing
