This Strawberries and Cream Oatmeal is hearty and satisfying, plus it’s made with only 5 ingredients! A wholesome dairy-free and sugar-free breakfast.

I’ll be honest — this Strawberries and Cream Oatmeal is totally inspired by those Instant Oatmeal packs. But is it just me, or were those little paper sachets never quite as yummy or satisfying as you thought they’d be?

That, friends, is not the case with this recipe. This Strawberry Oatmeal is creamy, hearty, and nourishing. It’s made with only 5 healthy ingredients,  and is naturally sugar and dairy-free! While it doesn’t come together as quickly as a microwave Oatmeal packet, it still has simple steps and takes around 15 minutes to make. Shall we?

About those ingredients – you’ll only need Oats, Strawberries, Non-Dairy Milk, Maple Syrup, and Vanilla Extract for this recipe! While the components are simple, the dish itself is packed with Strawberry flavor. How so? I like to call it my “triple Strawberry hack”.

Okay, that’s definitely not the best name ever, but trust me – this makes the recipe! I wanted this Strawberries and Cream Oatmeal to *actually* taste like Strawberries, so I decided to use Strawberries in the recipe in 3 different ways:

  1. First, we’ll blend some Berries with our Non-Dairy Milk to make “Strawberry Milk”
  2. Then, we’ll cook some diced Strawberries with our Oats, to really infuse that flavor
  3. Last but not least, we’ll top our creamy Oats with even more Berries for a fresh and crunchy bite!

Cooking the Oats in Non-Dairy Milk allows this recipe to be rich and creamy…without the cream! I like to use Unsweetened Almond or Cashew Milk for this recipe. Store-bought is fine, but if you can make it at home, even better 😉 If you want things to be super creamy, I’d suggest using Light or Full-Fat Coconut Milk. And if you want it to be less, replace some of the Milk with Water.

You can top these Strawberries and Cream Oats however you’d like!  They taste so good on their own, so I decided to keep things simple with a little drizzle of Almond Butter and some Hemp Hearts.

A Few Final Thoughts:

  • You can use fresh or frozen Strawberries for this recipe, but I recommend fresh for the best flavor!
  • This Oatmeal can be enjoyed hot or cold, and would be great for Meal Prep! If you plan on reheating it later, I would suggest adding an extra 1/2 cup of water with the wet ingredients. The Oats will thicken in the fridge, so this will help keep things runnier!
  • You can use either Quick or Rolled Oats for this recipe – personally, I like to use a little of both! Quick Oats help to create a smooth and creamy Oatmeal, while Rolled Oats provide a nice textural bite.

Strawberries and Cream Oatmeal

This Strawberries and Cream Oatmeal is hearty and satisfying, plus it’s made with only 5 ingredients! A wholesome dairy-free and sugar-free breakfast.

  • Author: Caitlin Shoemaker
  • Prep Time: 5 Minutes
  • Cook Time: 10 Minutes
  • Total Time: 15 minutes
  • Yield: 4 Servings 1x
  • Category: Breakfast
  • Method: Stovetop
  • Cuisine: American

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups Non-Dairy Milk*
  • 10 oz (about 3 cups) Fresh or Frozen Strawberries, divided
  • 2 cups Quick or Rolled Oats*
  • 1 tsp Vanilla Extract
  • 2 tbsp Maple Syrup, plus more to taste
  • Pinch of Salt

Instructions

  1. Cut the tops off of half of the Strawberries and place them in a blender with the Non-Dairy Milk. Blend until smooth and creamy, around 15-20 seconds. Dice the remaining Strawberries and set aside.
  2. Add the Oats to a large pot with the Strawberry “Milk”, Vanilla, Maple Syrup, and a pinch of Salt. Bring to a simmer over Medium heat; once the mixture starts to bubble, stir the remaining Strawberries into the Oatmeal (but save a few to put on top!) Let simmer over medium heat for 5-10 minutes or until your desired thickness is reached. Stir frequently – this helps to make everything more creamy!
  3. Transfer the Oatmeal to serving bowls and top as desired. Leftovers will keep in the fridge for up to 5 days.

Notes

  • I like to use a 50:50 combination of Quick and Rolled Oats for the best creamy and hearty texture!
  • You can use fresh or frozen Strawberries for this recipe, but I recommend fresh for the best flavor.

  1. Really delicious! Kids loved it! We did use skim milk because that’s what we had. Will make it again!

  2. Delicious and simple! I halved the recipe, a serving this AM and one for tomorrow 🙂 I don’t have any fresh strawberries, but used frozen and blended all of them with the milk. I added chia seeds while cooking, because I prefer the texture of the combination of chia seeds and oats. I topped the bowl with coconut and half a banana. I will definitely make this again when I have fresh strawberries!

    1. So happy you liked it, Melissa! Definitely would recommend also trying it with fresh strawberries.

  3. I’ve made this recipe two days in a row! I divide the measurements by a fourth for a single serving. Thanks for this tasty recipe.

      1. Ingredients:

        4 cups Non-Dairy Milk*
10 oz (about 3 cups) Fresh or Frozen Strawberries, divided
        1 1/2 cups Steel-Cut Oats
        1 tsp Vanilla Extract
2 tbsp Maple Syrup, plus more to taste
        Pinch of Salt
        Instructions:

Prepare Strawberries: Cut the tops off of half of the strawberries and set them aside. Dice the remaining strawberries and set them aside separately.

Blend Strawberry Milk: In a blender, combine the non-dairy milk and the tops of the strawberries. Blend until smooth and creamy, about 15-20 seconds.

Instant Pot Setup: Add the steel-cut oats, blended strawberry milk, diced strawberries, vanilla extract, maple syrup, and a pinch of salt to the Instant Pot. Stir to combine.

Cook in Instant Pot: Close the Instant Pot lid and set the valve to “Sealing.” Cook on high pressure for 10 minutes. Allow for natural pressure release for 10 minutes, then carefully release any remaining pressure manually.

Serve: Once the pressure has been released and it’s safe to open the Instant Pot, give the oatmeal a good stir. The texture should be creamy and the oats should be tender.

Top and Serve: Transfer the strawberry and cream steel-cut oatmeal to serving bowls and top with additional fresh strawberries and any other desired toppings.

        Note:

Steel-cut oats require a longer cooking time than quick or rolled oats. Adjust the cooking time accordingly based on your Instant Pot’s settings and the texture you prefer.
Cooking times might vary based on your specific Instant Pot model, so it’s a good idea to consult the Instant Pot’s manual for cooking steel-cut oats.
Be cautious when releasing pressure manually to avoid any steam burns.
Enjoy your delicious Strawberries and Cream Steel-Cut Oatmeal made in the Instant Pot!

  4. This was delicious! I made breakfast for dinner and amped up the sugar a bit with a couple scoops of strawberry quick powder 🙂 My kids wolfed it down and I have enough for breakfast in the morning. Looking forward to playing around with different fruits and milk flavors. Definitely a keeper, thanks!

  5. New to the whole less processed food thing…I bought unsweetened oat milk for this recipe…will that work?

  6. I used the instant pot. Big mistake. Way too much liquid. Came out super watery and bland. FYI to anybody looking to make these in the IP

  7. OH WOW, I did not think this was going to work (I said to myself, “Am I really here cooking oatmeal in a strawberry milkshake?”), but it did! I used frozen strawberries and quick-cooking steel-cut oats and added a banana, as well as 1/2 tsp of heavy whipping cream toward the end for that extra berries-and-cream flavor. Thanks!

  8. Im eating this rn and its so good!! I also added a couple spoonfuls of vanilla greek yogurt when it was just about done to make it more thick and creamy, delicious!!

  9. I just made this and loved it!! The secret really was the strawberry milk, its creaminess and deep flavour was soooo good! This will be a must every time I buy strawberries, for sure, thank you very much!

  10. This was really good and will make it into my regular recipe rotation. I used cow’s milk. I think the strawberry milk makes all the difference. It really tasted and smelled like strawberries. Smelled just like the Quaker strawberry oatmeal mix except it’s all natural instead of a sugary powder mix.

  11. I used steel-cut oats, coconut cream milk from a can, and topped with hemp hearts. I omitted the maple syrup, only because I’m on a parasite cleanse, so I’m keeping sweets to a minimum. However, the coconut cream milk adds just the perfect hint of sweetness! So yummy. Thank you!!

  12. If we want to make this for a meal prep for the whole week would it work? Do you just add the half a cup of water and microwave?

    Thanks!

    1. If you’re thinking of having the dry ingredients prepped and measured out then you’d want about half! That’s for the full week!

  13. Definitely adding this recipe to my favorites list! It is so delicious! Thanks so much for this recipe!

      1. Hi Caitlin!

This was a huge hit with my family… especially my husband who usually stays clear of anything remotely healthy. Thanks for the delicious and healthy recipe!???? Quick question… Would this taste just as great if you replaced the strawberries with blueberries?

      2. Blueberries would be great! I’m sure it would work, might need to experiment with the right amount since it’s a little different from strawberries. If you give it a shot let us know how it turns out!

  14. This was such an awesome recipe! I would so love to know how you make your fresh almond milk. Thank you for always posting such inspiring videos and recipes! Love from Texas <3

    1. Thanks for the review, Julie! I plan on posting a nut milk guide on the blog soon – stay tuned 🙂

  15. Topped mine with blackberries, a bit of nut butter, and nature’s sprinkles (aka hemp hearts)! Delicious and filling. Thanks, Caitlin ????

  16. I made this and was surprised how good it was! I was a little bit skeptical of an oatmeal recipe because oatmeal is oatmeal, but it was different and tasty.
